Ger Garland joined the Irish whiskey industry nearly 17 years ago, taking on his current role as Advocacy Team Manager and Irish Whiskey Ambassador in 2014.
Speaking on the night Ger Garland said: Working with the most amazing brands the Irish whiskey industry has to offer is enough for me, but I feel truly blessed to have received such high recognition for a role that has never felt like work. I love travelling around the world meeting the passionate and dedicated individuals who have made the whiskey industry as vibrant and exciting as it is today. I love meeting new people and answering their questions. I am first and foremost a whiskey fan and I love seeing people at various stages along their Irish whiskey journeys, as their appreciation grows. I was humbled to be shortlisted alongside two incredible ambassadors including my colleague Kate Moran in Australia and to receive such a prestigious award is an absolute privilege.
Commenting on the significant achievement, Jean-Christophe Coutures, Chairman and CEO of Irish Distillers said: We are delighted that Ger has been acknowledged with such an esteemed award at this year’s Global Icons of Whiskey. He has played a vital role in the Irish whiskey renaissance in his four years in the role. His passion and knowledge of all things Irish whiskey has ignited the excitement and appreciation of countless Irish whiskey fans around the globe. Having witnessed Ger’s work first hand over the years, it comes as no surprise that he has received such high recognition from his global peers.
Jameson Distillery Bow St was also recognised as Visitor Attraction of the Year, which is particularly significant following its 6-month redevelopment project which commenced in late 2016. Jameson Distillery Bow St saw a surge in visitors as whiskey enthusiasts, local and international, have flocked to enjoy the new look distillery and the new experiences it offers.
