My name is Laura Devitt, and I’m the International Customer Relationship Manager at Irish Distillers. My team and I manage all exports of Irish Distillers’ products globally. I have a vibrant and passionate team of 14 people.
What is it like working with your team?
Our team is incredibly dynamic and fun. It’s always busy and loud because we’re constantly interacting with each other and our customers. It’s a fantastic place to work. We have a really diverse team in terms of age, gender, and nationality, which makes for a great working environment.
How does the team support each other?
There is great camaraderie within the team. Whether someone faces personal or professional challenges, there’s always a group ready to help out. This supportive environment makes people want to stay with the team, which is fantastic.
What has your career journey at Irish Distillers been like?
I’ve been with Irish Distillers for almost ten years, and it’s never been boring! I’ve had the opportunity to work in different roles and departments, including a stint with Pernod Ricard South Africa. There, I spent six months as a Demand Planner and on the procurement team. The experience was amazing, and I made lots of friends.
Tell us about the time you spent in marketing.
I switched from operations and supply chain to the marketing team a few years ago. It was a significant change, but I wanted to learn more about marketing after my experience in South Africa. The transition was challenging and rewarding. I learned a lot about the business from a different perspective. It was a secondment opportunity and I embraced it fully.
Have you had support in exploring new interests and roles within the company?
Absolutely. I’ve been encouraged to pursue anything I was interested in. Managers here have pushed me out of my comfort zone, offering projects and roles that helped me grow. Their support and willingness to let me explore different parts of the business has been invaluable.
How would you describe the company culture at Irish Distillers?
The culture at Irish Distillers is convivial, respectful, and friendly. Newcomers often comment on how respectful everyone is. We work well together across functions, forming strong bonds and friendships. It’s a community that knows how to work hard and enjoy life, making it a unique and really great place to work.
Can you share some of the development programs you’ve benefited from?
Irish Distillers has supported my development through various courses. One of the most beneficial was our Leadership Training program, which focused on the psychology of leadership. I also trained as a mental health listener, learning how to support my team through personal challenges, which has been incredibly useful.
