John Nelson, Supply Planner

How long have you been working with Irish Distillers?

I have been working with Irish Distillers for just over a year. I’m based at our Bottling Operations & Supply Chain facility in Clondalkin in Dublin.

Tell us more about Supply Chain at Irish Distillers.

Supply Chain is a fast paced, ever-changing function. We are responsible for Planning, Procurement, Logistics, Manufacturing and Materials Management . As a team we liaise with our Pernod Ricard colleagues globally. It a great place to get an overall understanding of Irish Distillers and Pernod Ricard as a whole. There’s lots of opportunity to develop yourself – I’m constantly learning.

What do you do in Supply Chain?

I am responsible for planning the global bottling production for Jameson, Jameson Black Barrel and Jameson Caskmates. We produce approximately 1 million cases per month! My role involves collaboration, relationship building and driving continuous improvement. I work on developing and maintaining production plans for finished goods. This helps facilitate efficient manufacturing operations and ensures customer requirements are fully met.

What does it involve day to day?

My day to day involves planning the production for a continuous 6-week period, taking into account all the complexities of production capacity, bottle sizes, liquid supply, material supply and customer satisfaction. I work with various stakeholders to ensure the daily production schedule is met to ensure quality and manufacturing efficiency targets are achieved in a safe environment, ready for shipping to the customer.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The day-to-day collaboration with my Irish Distillers colleagues. I love the variety of the work I get to do and the wide range of people I deal with each day. I also really enjoy the international exposure I am gaining as well by engaging with colleagues in Irish Distillers and in Pernod Ricard across the UK and Europe.

How would you describe your work environment?

It’s a really positive, upbeat work environment. I learn lots from my colleagues, and there is always someone there to help when you need it. Everyone works hard, but we know we can count on one another.  Our company values of being real, remarkable and responsible really align with my personal values, so I feel very comfortable at work.

What’s the best project you have been involved in and why?

I am currently involved in the installation of a new high speed bottling production line into our Bottling Operations site. It’s exciting for me to be a key stakeholder. I am supporting some key Strategic Capital Investments & operational improvements as part of our Continuous Improvement Programs. These projects are really interesting to be involved in as they will future proof our site and enable us to deliver our growth.
